About Monkton Nature Reserve
The reserve is an old chalk quarry, excavated from 1799 until 1958.
A 16 acre site with informative walking nature trails, pond, bird-watching opportunities and a bat-cave.
The grassland contains many species of rare orchids and a variety of wildflowers; the woodland is over 40 years old and a haven for birds; the ponds teem with wildlife.
